Advice recently given to me…
Well, things in this world are changing daily, some for the good but most for the bad. The dollar is at an all time low, worth in essence nothing. Home foreclosures are at an all time high, particularly in my neck of the woods. Over all We The People are getting bent over and railed without any comforting lube of any type and guess what? We seem to either like it, too busy to notice or just don’t care.
Which brings me to what seems to be the crux of every argument, every opinion, every thought surrounding the future of our once great nation. What the hell can we do when the house of cards comes a crashing down? How can we protect the ones we love, provide for them and survive to fight on? The secret is simple really, food.

When oil reaches a price point that cannot be supported by society as a whole the whole system will collapse. This is our inevitable future without a doubt. Doubt this? Look at every item that you purchase, look at the cost/quality of it today and now compare it to just 5 years ago. One or the either (cost or quality) has been sacrificed for profit as manufacturing costs and transportation costs (both of which rely on oil) have skyrocketed.
When the see-saw finally tips in the favor of oil being un-affordable for most people (we are close, oil as I write this is at another all time high of $110.20 per barrel of light crude) the result won’t be that people will not drive as much or will start using public transportation but we starve. Think about it for a minute, food production relies on oil as well as getting it to market. The end result is we pay the price, indirectly yes but ultimately it is passed on to us some how. So, how does all of this affect you and I and what can we do about it?

When money is worth nothing and gold and precious metals carry any real value the problem will not be wealth and poverty but who controls the food. Food and the possession of it will carry a power far greater than wealth, it will enable, empower and allow someone to survive. Don’t believe me ? Ask anyone that who has been through a natural disaster that was of significance such as hurricane Katrina or Andrew what money did for them.
I volunteered for 10 days in Homestead Florida, I was there within 6 hours of the eye passing. I can tell you one thing, money, gold, precious metals didn’t get you anywhere it was food, water and ice that determined who had wealth. Vultures swept in and sold bags of ice for $20 each, canned food for $5 a can, gallon containers of water for $10 plus dollars. Guess what, most people didn’t have the cash and had no access of getting any. Banks (if they still stood) had no power so ATM’s didn’t work, people that rode the storm out lost most possessions so any “loose change” around the house was long gone. I personally saw a guy offer a Rolex watch in exchange for 30 bags of ice, 5 cases of canned beans and stew and 2 pallets of bottled water. A 10 thousand dollar watch for maybe $200 worth of goods….kind of sad but he helped his family out in a time of need as well as his neighbors.

Food, throughout time has always empowered people or kept them under control. Food has long been used as a tool to control the masses. Don’t let this happen to you. The best thing you can do for you and your family is to stock up on food, not from the grocery store but from a food co-op of some sort. Dehydrated foods have shelf lives of over 20 years and are much cheaper than store bought items of the same quality. There are a few sites out there that sell “year food supplies” that are reputable and of high quality and most are organic as well. The price per day works out to just over 5.00 a day shipped to your door per person, that is less than $1.75 per meal (not including snacks that most contain).

Start small with your family, buy a starter pack and put it in your pantry and have the occasional meal that is freeze dried or dehydrated. You and your family will be amazed at the quality as well as the time and cost savings. Seriously consider the idea of having a 3 year supply of food for every member of your family, remember that food is power.
I have already started a new section (may be a site, not sure yet) on how the food we eat causes a lot of the health problems that we have today. Additives and preservatives are slowly killing us and our government is just sitting and watching it happen. Don’t take my word, look at what events in the last year have taught us….no one is safe.
Ideas:
- “Bulk buy” storage food items with family, friends, neighbors, community
- Grow what you realistically can
- Look in to local growers growing produce or cattle for you
- Consider every food purchase you make for what it really is
- Wake up, realize that food is power.
